The Pigeon

Today’s photo is one I re-discovered in the “vaults”. I have a love/hate relationship with pigeons; we have a history that involves my balcony and their latrine habits…

At any rate, I’m pleased with this photo on a few levels. The eyes of the bird are focused and that tends to make a photo more appealing to viewers. Secondly the background of water adds some drama. Pigeons aren’t water birds, so what is this one looking at, or thinking? Can it be that it’s envying the geese and ducks in the pond who are getting bread thrown to them? Static animal photos are hard to make dynamic, so this adds a nice level.

I think the exposure is okay, but the wood and the water are perhaps a bit over-exposed. Some of the lighter areas are blown-out with indicates exposure issues.
